Comcast Honors the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today, as we recognize Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 40 years after his tragic passing, we acknowledge that while important progress has been made, there is still much work to do on our journey toward creating justice and equity for all.

At Comcast, we’re committed to uplifting our communities through service, a commitment our employees share and build on every day by giving back to their communities.  That includes viewing MLK Day not as a “day off” but a “day on.”

Additionally, Project UP is Comcast’s comprehensive initiative to advance digital equity and help build a future of Unlimited Possibilities. Backed by a $1 billion commitment to reach tens of millions of people, Project UP encompasses the programs and community partnerships across Comcast, NBCUniversal, and Sky that connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility, and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers, and creators. By bringing these efforts together under one umbrella and working with our partners and local communities, we can deepen our impact and harness new opportunities that benefit generations to come.

We’ll also be commemorating Dr. King and the many civil rights leaders who marched beside him later this year, as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of our Voices of the Civil Rights Movement platform through new interviews, events, and more.

We encourage you to check out “Avenues of Dreams: Reclaiming MLK Boulevards,” a short documentary film that follows the stories of scholars, community organizers, business owners, and others as they reclaim MLK Boulevards in Baltimore, St. Louis, and beyond. “Avenues of Dreams” examines the history behind the naming of the streets, how they can connect and also divide us, and how communities are working to restore the hope of Dr. King’s vision and legacy in their own neighborhoods. Xfinity customers can watch the documentary on Black Experience on Xfinity and Xumo. You can also tune to channel 1622 on X1 or simply say “Black Experience” into your voice remote.

Storm Recovery Continues in Northern & Central California

If you’re among the thousands impacted by the historic storms that have battered Northern and Central California since the start of the new year, our hearts go out to you.  While today is an important holiday for Comcast and many others, our teams will still be out there working diligently to assess damage, make repairs and restore services where they have been impacted by power outages, flooding, fallen trees and other aspects of the storms.
