Xfinity, in partnership with Universal Pictures, hosted more than 100 Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority members in Emeryville for an advanced screening of the highly anticipated new film, Wicked.

AKA is an international service organization, founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women. One of the film’s stars, Cynthia Erivo, is an honorary member.

“This partnership with one of the most influential groups of women in our nation was fantastic,” said Ken Maxey, Director of Government Affairs, who served as emcee for the evening’s festivities. “It was fun to learn that the majority of those who attended were Comcast/Xfinity customers and many were also Xfinity Rewards members.”

“The Bay Area leadership for Alpha Kappa Alpha shared with me how much the screening meant to their sorority sisters,” Maxey added. “It was a great movie and an awesome night!”

AKA members from the Bay Area, Sacramento and even as far away as the Central Valley attended the event in Emeryville, most dressed in incredibly fashionable outfits featuring pink and green…the theme colors for the sorority and for the film itself. Pink and green décor, photo ops, complimentary concessions, and giveaways enriched the experience, while fans took selfies from the pink carpet!

In her remarks at the event, Nichole Jordan, Regional Director of AKA, thanked Comcast for the partnership. She also joined in recognizing ten top-performing college students, all AKA members, each of whom received a laptop computer from Comcast as a special surprise gift that was met with great enthusiasm.
