National Flag Day: Comcast’s Veteran’s Flag Replacement Program Comes to California

Today, Comcast celebrates and honors Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777. Comcast is grateful to our military community for their dedication to our country. Together, we share the values of leadership, service, teamwork, and ethics, and we are honored to hire and partner with veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and military spouses. In partnership with our Veterans Network employee resource group (ERG), Comcast recently introduced the Flag Replacement Program to our California employees. This program is open to all residents in the communities we serve, whether they are a customer or not.

How the Program Works

When a Comcast employee is out in the community and sees a well-flown U.S. flag in need of replacement, they contact their area Flag Replacement Ambassador to ensure the replacement of a new flag at no cost. The well-flown flag is then retired with honor and respect at a local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post. All handling and retirement of the flags are per U.S. Flag Code, and all flags are made in the U.S. Additionally, the goal is to procure flags from diverse vendors in the California Region.

It All Started With a Comcast Employee & Navy Veteran

Since the program’s inception in April 2017 by the Veterans Network in the Freedom Region, over 400 flags have been replaced across the country by the ERG. It all began with Comcast employee and Navy veteran Dave Pinder. He started by replacing the worn-out flag in his own office, and it sparked an idea to do the same for others in the community through Comcast’s Veteran Network.
