Preparing for the Fire Season Ahead

Over the past few years, we’ve seen the devastating impact of wildfires in California and our communities. As we continue our efforts to rebuild our network and our neighborhoods in Paradise, we are reminded that it’s never too soon to start preparing for the season ahead.

We know how important it is to stay connected to the content that matters most to you and your family, and it is even more critical when the unexpected happens. To support you as much as possible before, during, and after the wildfire season, we want you to know the resources available to you from Xfinity and from local teams.

How to Stay Connected:

Xfinity has apps that help you stay connected, informed and access your account in the event of an emergency.

  • Xfinity Stream app: Access live TV, including weather and news updates, on any device and download shows from your DVR
  • My Account app: Manage your account, check for outages, report service interruptions, and troubleshoot your equipment
  • WiFi Hotspots app: Find hotspots near you when you need them most
  • Connect app: Send and receive texts and listen to your voicemail

Equipment On the Go: 

  • It’s important to keep your equipment charged at all times during wildfire season. That way, if you need to evacuate, important communication devices like your phone, tablet, and laptop will be ready to use.
  • Consider buying portable chargers. Portable chargers can help you refuel your phones on the go, helping you to stay connected to your family, friends or important information about a fire when you’re not at home.
  • Visit Xfinity.com, 1-800-xfinity, or local store near you to find out more about what you can do to stay connected in case of an emergency.

Create an Action Plan:

Here are some reminders we found helpful as we prepare our employees and families for the season ahead:

  • Update your contact information on Xfinity.com. This includes your email address and mobile phone number in the event Xfinity needs to provide you with any updates on the status of your Xfinity services.
  • Establish a plan ahead of time. This might include setting up a meeting place before you need it, or learning how to use a fire extinguisher for the smaller emergencies around you.
  • Know how to manage emergency food skills and supplies in case your power goes out. Read more about eating and cooking during this scenario here.
  • Plan and pack a “Go” bag. Make sure to put together an emergency supply kit to have on hand and grab in an emergency. This should be readily accessible and easy to take with you. Find more information about what to pack here.

We hope we don’t need to implement any of these emergency procedures this year, but we want all of our friends and neighbors to be prepared in case we do.  Stay safe and have fun this summer!
