Celebrating National Dog Day with a Look Back at Comcast Zoomies: A Dog Speed Challenge
Calling all dog owners and fur-ever friends; today is National Dog Day! Founded in 2004, National Dog Day celebrates all breeds and raises awareness for pet adoption so all dogs can live a safe and happy life.
In honor of this howl-iday, Comcast is looking back on Zoomies: A Dog Speed Challenge that showcased a pup’s speed while raising money for the Sacramento SPCA. “Zoomies,” a common phenomenon in which dogs spontaneously sprint out of excitement, is a universal experience for pets of all kinds: young or old, big or small, fuzzy or sleek.
During the summer of 2021, contestants in the Greater Sacramento Area shared Instagram videos of their dogs doing “Zoomies” using the hashtag #ZoomingForGold and tagging @SacTownDogs. Finalists had their videos judged during a fun-filled virtual ceremony and received a paw-some gift box. The top three winners had a donation made in their pet’s name to the Sacramento SPCA in the amount of $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000, respectively.
