Team Up Shows Up in Sacramento: Our Commitment to Give Back to the Communities We Call Home

By: Aaron Walker

One of the many things that makes Comcast such a special company to work for is its deep commitment to supporting and uplifting our local communities. Sacramento is not just another territory we serve, it’s also home to more than 200 of our employees. For those of us who live in Sacramento, we know that many of our fellow residents are experiencing hunger, homelessness, or food insecurity, and as a company we wanted to help however we could.

Thanks to a partnership with the Sportsman Channel and a unique program called Hunt.Fish.Feed that our two organizations created, members of our Comcast team, through Comcast’s Team Up initiative, recently prepared and served lunch to more than 600 people at Sacramento Loaves & Fishes. Hunt.Fish.Feed is truly a unique program because it taps into using an underutilized food source of game meat and fish to feed those struggling with hunger. All meat sources are donated by sportsmen and women from across the country, and through community-based events and partnerships is used to feed people of all ages.

Team UP is an always-on, 365-days-a-year effort that brings Comcast teams together and provides opportunities for everyone to get more involved in their local communities. The name, Team UP, underscores that our work has the greatest reach when we join forces. It also aligns with Project UP, our initiative to build a future of unlimited possibilities.

Along with John McGannon, a noted wild game chef, and the staff at Sacramento Loaves & Fishes, 25 employees from our Sacramento-based Comcast team volunteered their time in the kitchen slicing and dicing, packaging to-go boxes and later serving lunch. The delicious meal – one that you could smell as soon as you stepped inside – included Venison Sloppy Joes, potato salad with bacon and rosemary, fresh fruit, dessert and drinks. We were delighted to hear from many of the lunch patrons that they enjoyed the meal, but perhaps what was even more heartwarming was just how energized and joyful all of the volunteers were. From start to finish, everyone came together for a singular purpose, and they did so with kindness and gratitude.

While providing a meal was our focus that day, our collective hope is to show our community that we care and that we are all in this together. I am so proud and humbled by the generosity of my colleagues, and for a company that not only values giving back but puts that philosophy into action. We know our work isn’t done, which is why our commitment to give back and to serve will remain ongoing. We are also grateful for our partners, the Sportsman Channel for their leadership, and to our community-based partner, Sacramento Loaves & Fishes for the important work you do every day in serving our community.
