Comcast is spotlighting Marcos Vicente’s recent feature on Hispanic Executive for his work in bringing broadband internet to remote California locations and underserved communities. Vicente currently serves as Comcast’s Vice President of Finance and Business Operations.
In this feature, he discussed his upbringing and how he found himself at Comcast after immigrating to the United States. He grew up in Brazil and found his first mentor in his father, who taught him about honesty, perseverance, humility, and kindness. He is grateful to have landed a job with Comcast, where he has remained through highs and lows, finding all types of opportunities to grow. All the roles he held at Comcast brought him to where he is now, starting with being on the frontline as a technician. He holds his past experiences close, noting that frontline employees often bring the best ideas. Being a part of the organization under many different roles, he adds that the company has continued to invest in him over the years, being a “two-way organization.”
“As long as you want to invest in yourself, the company will invest in you. There are so many great mentors within Comcast, I’ve had countless myself, and our culture promotes and supports continuous feedback and development,” Vicente shares.
Vicente is passionate about and proud of Comcast’s network expansion initiative, which includes investing in high-speed broadband internet services for underserved areas of California, such as Biola and Planada, under his purview. In Biola, Comcast invested $1 million in addition to 250 laptops donated to students and families, three lift zones that provide free Wi-Fi access at designated community centers, and an additional $100,000 across two local organizations to teach digital literacy and work readiness. The work in Planada followed suit, where Comcast donated $4.5 million to bring next-generation high-speed broadband to the community. He notes that predominantly Latino communities can benefit from these services, especially in an age where everything is continuing to become more digital. It is important to him that those communities are connected to the growing digital economy and are not left behind as a result.
In addition to working as the Vice President of Finance and Business Operations, Vicente serves as an executive sponsor of UNIDOS, Comcast’s Latino employee resource group (ERG) in California. This ERG builds inclusivity, trust, and collaboration, allowing all employees to feel accepted and supported within the company.
Noting the title of Brian Lomenick’s book, H3 Leadership: Be Humble. Stay Hungry. Always Hustle., he is reminded of his father and himself in his own work as he continues to work hard to provide infrastructure, technology, services, and training to unserved and underserved communities.
Congratulations, Marcos!
