Kamyla Esparza Named 2025 Comcast Señorita Comunidad

At the heart of this year’s Reina Fiestas Patrias Pageant, held on September 7 at Sacramento’s C.K. McClatchy High School Performing Arts Auditorium, one young woman stood out—not just for her grace and poise, but for her unwavering commitment to community service. Kamyla, a college student majoring in construction management, was honored with the inaugural Comcast Señorita Comunidad award, a new recognition presented in partnership with Comcast and Telemundo 33 to celebrate community engagement and leadership.
The Reina Fiestas Patrias Pageant, hosted by the Mexican Cultural Center of Northern California, has been a cherished tradition for over 80 years. Each year, it crowns a “Reina” who exemplifies cultural pride, academic achievement, and community involvement. This year, seven college students competed through speeches, cultural presentations, and outreach efforts. Kamyla’s story resonated deeply with judges and attendees alike making her not only the Reina Fiestas Patrias winner, but also Comcast Señorita Comunidad.
For Kamyla, the pageant was more than a competition, it was a platform to amplify her mission. “I don’t want to just be someone who won a title,” she said. “I want to use this opportunity to truly help my community.” Her journey to the crown included months of preparation, including Spanish coaching sessions to better connect with her heritage and audience.
At just 18, Kamyla founded Amor Sin Fronteras KID, an organization that provides backpacks, school supplies, and holiday gifts to underserved children in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico—her family’s hometown. Her passion stems from personal experience: growing up with a learning disability, she faced academic challenges that many Latino children still struggle with today. “There are so many kids whose families don’t even know what a learning disability is,” she explained. “I want to raise awareness and make sure they know they’re not alone.”
Her advocacy doesn’t stop there. Kamyla recently partnered with Sacramento Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes to distribute nearly 2,000 backpacks at a local event. “Seeing the kids smile when they picked up their supplies was priceless,” she said. “Moments like that remind me why this work matters.”
Kamyla is also breaking barriers in her chosen field. Inspired by her family-owned construction business, she’s pursuing a degree in construction management, a field where Latinas make up less than 1% of the workforce. “I want to be part of changing that,” she said proudly.
The Comcast Señorita Comunidad award recognizes young leaders like Kamyla who are making a tangible impact. “We’re proud to support voices that drive positive change,” said Dillon Auyoung, Community Impact Director for Comcast California. As the award’s first recipient, Kamyla will represent Comcast at future cultural and community events.
Kamyla’s story is proof that with heart, hard work, and a commitment to others, pageants can be more than tradition—they can be a launchpad for change.
