Comcast Turbo-Charges its Xfinity Network in San Jose with 2 Gigabit Speeds Now Available to Most Customers

Comcast has invested heavily to turbo-charge its Xfinity next-generation network and as a result most San Jose, Calif. customers can now get 2 gigabits-per-second (Gbps) download speeds and up to 10x faster upload speeds. These blazing fast speeds are available now over the existing connections in homes and businesses – no new equipment or added payments are needed. This speed increase is made possible by Comcast’s significant investments in its Xfinity network and paves the way for Comcast to deliver symmetrical multigigabit speeds in the near future.

“San Jose is a priority for Comcast and our sizable investment here powers the next-generation Xfinity experience for our customers today and well into the future,” said David Tashjian, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s California Region. “Our network is a result of years of innovation and massive investments that continue to make our Xfinity service faster, more reliable and more secure – offering immediate benefits to San Jose customers.”

Comcast continues to make significant investments in its Xfinity network to ensure it delivers all the speed, capacity, reliability and security customers need today, and well into the future. The investments made recently in San Jose have many added benefits beyond faster speeds.

Beyond Faster Speeds

As part of this network evolution, most Xfinity customers in San Jose have the fastest speeds available from Comcast today, as well as:

  • Reliable no matter what: Comcast-developed platforms use artificial intelligence and machine learning to continuously monitor performance data, identify potential issues and automatically optimize performance – often before customers even notice a problem. Earning a 99.9% world-class reliability score, so our customers have an always-on connection.
  • Secure at every moment: Comcast has a dedicated team of highly-skilled, industry-certified cyber security experts working 24/7 to protect customer data. All included with and at no additional cost to customers with an Xfinity Gateway. Just download and sign in through the Xfinity app.
  • Lower latency: Reduced latency or “lag” enables better performance of real-time applications like video conferencing, multi-player on-line gaming, live video streaming and VR experiences.

This project is part of Comcast’s commitment to California, where the company has invested almost $4 billion in technology and infrastructure in the past three years.

Comcast’s commitment to new communities goes beyond these network enhancements, addressing digital opportunities in communities through Project UP, the company’s $1 billion dollar commitment to help tens of millions of people connect to the Internet and build futures of unlimited possibilities. Over the past three years, Comcast has invested more than $130.5 million in cash and in-kind donations into California nonprofits focused on helping people build digital skills, expanding WiFi connected Lift Zones and funding connectivity and Internet adoption programs.
