Comcast California Launches New Young Professionals Network Employee Resource Group

The Young Professionals Network (YPN) Employee Resource Group just launched in California and we could not be more excited to celebrate Comcast’s young professionals.

Developing and advancing the careers of our employees is one of Comcast’s top priorities. According to AccountingWEB, Millennials are now the largest generation present in the workforce.

The research also indicates that Millennials really don’t feel entitled, they feel empowered. They want to improve, hone their skills, be useful and work on what they find meaningful. They want to impact their business and provide real return on investment for their work but like any new additions to the workforce they need some guidance. With all of these facts in mind, Comcasters wanted to bring the Young Professionals Network to California to impact innovation, collaboration and exceptional business results to Comcast, while providing leadership, mentorship, networking and community service opportunities for future leaders, and supporting a company culture of inclusivity.

We interviewed several young leaders at Comcast California about this topic, and this is what they had to say:

“this ERG group will assist in breaking down barriers”

In your opinion, how will an ERG focused on young professionals help your career?

Young professionals are the future of business. With Comcast being one of the larger companies in the United States, I feel as though having this ERG group will assist in breaking down barriers. Often, because Comcast is so large, there are departments or individuals you may not interact with on a day to day basis. By giving these individuals a chance to interact, they are just furthering their network of resources. These resources may be from a department that has a different outlook on the business. By understanding more departments and all of the facets of Comcast, I can make better business decisions for Comcast as a whole, which will hopefully lead to career advancement and further forethought of the business.

“always looking to push the boundaries”

Name: Angelo Becklehimer

Title:  MDU Account Executive

In your opinion, what benefits does a millennial perspective brings to the business?

I believe the benefit of a millennial perspective to the business is we grew up with the idea of technology in the workplace. We also have a fresh perspective on technology and how technology affects the home. Since we are in the technology industry and we need to always push the boundaries. Millennials are always looking to push the boundaries and challenge the norm.

“the power of technology can drive this even further”

Name: Emina Ahmetovic

Title: Community Account Event Specialist:

In your opinion, what benefits does a millennial perspective brings to the business?

Millennials have grown up with and rely on technology, which I think is very important to a company like Comcast that’s continuously innovating and evolving. We also grew up with new ways of communicating with each other, the media, and this constantly connected way of living. Being a part of a company that went from a cable company to a media and technology company is very exciting and the way Millennials believe in the power of technology can drive this even further. Also, Millennials are known to be very motivated and passionate about their careers from an early age. It’s very exciting to be a part of this group and a part of a company that is enthusiastic and welcomes this perspective.

What part of the YPN ERG excites you the most?

I am looking forward to YPN bringing a mix of generations together. I am excited to see how they will mesh the perspective of a Millennial crowd with other generations.

Following the Young Professionals Network launch, members were invited to a rooftop mixer in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood. Attendees enjoyed the chance to network with their fellow members and hear from Ted Girdner, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Business Development for the California Region.
