Comcast NBCUniversal is celebrating LGBTQ Pride with a range of new programming, events and corporate initiatives that reflect the diversity of the LGBTQ community.
From a content perspective, Comcast is adding 1,200 hours of Pride free preview content for its Xfinity Video customers from now until June 9 through the LGBTQ Film & TV Collection, a first-of-its kind collection of diverse, community-endorsed LGBTQ content at home and on-the-go. Specifically, the free preview will include:
- Unique and boundary-pushing series from Revry, the world’s first global queer streaming network;
- Film festival favorites from Dekkoo, the largest streaming collection of gay-centric entertainment;
- Award-winning films from Here TV, an American premium television network targeting LGBT audiences
Additional commemorative programming worth noting that reflects important stories, people and events that lead to the modern LGBTQ rights movement includes:
- Special documentaries about the lives of LGBTQ activists such as The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson; Major!, a documentary film about the life and campaigns of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a Black transgender elder and activist; and Vito, a film about the life of gay activist Vito Russo
- Recommended shows and movies from The Stonewall National Museum and Archives
- LGBTQ film and TV recommendations by members of the Trevor Project, one of this year’s 50th NYC Pride March Grand Marshals
- Kids & Family Pride content from Hopster, a streaming network offering age-appropriate kids and family entertainment
The best part is that any of this content can be easily found by simply saying “Pride” into the X1 voice remote.
Also occurring during the month, NBC News will spotlight the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, widely viewed as one of the most important events leading up to the modern LGBTQ rights movement, on several of its on-air and digital platforms, with MSNBC airing a primetime, one-hour documentary, called “Rebellion! Stonewall” in late June. What’s more, Nightly News Films and LGBTQ news site NBC Out are collaborating on a four-part digital documentary series on the pre- and post-Stonewall LGBTQ equality movement, the Stonewall riots, and modern Pride celebrations.
Locally, our employees are also showing their support by participating in the San Francisco Pride Parade for the third year in a row. This year’s parade and festival will take place on June 29 & 30, 2019, under the Generations of Resistance theme.
The Comcast California employees, accompanied by its local sister companies: Comcast Spotlight, NBC News Bay Area, Telemundo 48, NBC Sports Bay Area and the Comcast Innovation Center, will walk in the parade followed by a float that commemorates the Stonewall 50 riots. Also, the Xfinity team will be the presenting sponsor of the Latin Stage and the Soul of Pride Stage during the festival.
