This week, the City of Merced issued an evacuation order for some areas due to flooding risk from the overflowing Bear Creek. The city joined Merced County in declaring a local emergency to mobilize emergency crews together.
An evacuation center has been opened at the Merced County Fairgrounds located at 900 MLK Jr. Way, Merced Fairgrounds.
According to United Way of Merced County officials, they have hosted around 300 people at the fairgrounds as of Wednesday morning, providing basic necessities and a place to rest.
Comcast understands the inconvenience these evacuation orders can have on seniors, families and children, which is why we’ve joined forces with the United Way of Merced County to support the community of Merced by equipping the evacuation center with wall-to-wall WiFi. In addition to providing Internet, Comcast is delivering food and beverages, as well as personal care kits.
