The Bay Area community came together to celebrate the 213th Anniversary of Mexican Independence Day with an official ceremony of El Grito de Independencia at San Francisco City Hall on September 15th, 2023.
El Grito is a traditional “Cry for Independence” that commemorates priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla’s call to arms that began the Mexican War of Independence, and now kicks off Mexican Independence Day celebrations.
When the clock struck 6PM on September 15th, Consul General Remedios Gomez Arnau gave El Grito from the balcony of San Francisco City Hall, with Mayor London Breed and Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis as his guests of honor. The evening also included entertainment, mariachis, and ballet folklorico at Civic Center Plaza.
Comcast is honored to have participated in and supported the celebration of El Grito in the heart of San Francisco. With Comcast’s partnership, the organizers of the event, including the Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco, hosted a VIP reception at City Hall that connected leaders from the Latino community across the Bay. Comcast was a key sponsor for this event and continuously works with the fiscal sponsor, Mission Neighborhood Centers, through our Lift Zones and provide essential services and partnership for the local Latino community.
