Black Joy Parade and Comcast Celebrate 9 Community Leaders Leaving a Legacy

In 2020 as Black Joy Parade and Comcast began to reimagine how their partnership could best serve and celebrate the community, Icons Among Us was born.

Born out of a desire to recognize community leaders who are doing impactful work in their communities while they are still actively involved, Icons Among Us allows us to show them love and appreciation while they are here.

With over 100 nominations from the community, nine were selected to be finalists. Congratulations to:

Rodney “Alamo” Brown, Community Advocate

LaNiece Jones, Executive Director, Peralta Colleges Foundation

Dr. David C. Isom, Pastor, St. Stephen CME Church

Jennifer Braddock, CNM, MS. Manager, Midwifery Services, Highland Hospital

Adamaka Ajaelo, Founding Executive Director, Self eSTEM

Milan Balinton, Executive Director, African American Community Service Agency

Socorro “Cori” Moreland, Founder/CEO, Brotherhood510

Janelle Luster, Cultural Practitioner

Precious J Stroud, Founder and Principal at PJS Consultants

Last year three leaders were awarded in a virtual celebration, but this year Comcast and Black Joy are excited to announce the three Icons at this year’s Black Joy Parade on February 27th. These three Icons receive a $5,000 contribution made in their honor to a nonprofit of their choice, and a surprise personal gift designed specifically for them.

Join the celebration this weekend and tune in to find out who will be crowned Icons Among Us!
