On Friday, August 8th, the Sacramento River Cats hosted a vibrant Women’s Empowerment Night at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento proudly sponsored by Xfinity and Comcast Business. The evening celebrated women who lead, uplift, and inspire, beginning with the LeadHERship Panel, a dynamic conversation featuring four influential women from the West Sacramento region.

The panel included:

  • Mayor Martha Guerrero, City of West Sacramento
  • Council Member Quirina Orozco, City of West Sacramento
  • J’ley Fagalar, Senior Coordinator of People Operations for the Oakland Athletics
  • Sabrina Aguiar, Manager of Baseball Operations for the Sacramento River Cats

Mayor Guerrero opened the discussion with a powerful message: “Leadership is about listening first. When we center community voices, we build policies that truly serve.”

She also emphasized the importance of preventive health, sharing a personal connection: “The gym closes at 11 p.m., so you’ll see me there after this event—or sometimes I go for a run between meetings. My wellbeing is part of my ambition. My grandmother died of cancer, and it’s very important to me to take care of my health.”

Council Member Quirina Orozco spoke candidly about resilience and the need for balance. In 2023, she publicly shared her diagnosis of stage 4 cancer and continues to serve with grace and determination:

“After my diagnosis, I had to undergo a lifestyle shift and take the world by the horns. I understood that at the end of the day, we are not our title—these positions are replaceable. Women give so much of themselves that it’s important to take a step back and scale back if necessary.”

J’ley Fagalar, known for her work in youth advocacy, highlighted the power of mentorship: “Empowerment starts with showing up—for yourself and for others. Every young woman deserves to see what’s possible.”

Sabrina Aguiar encouraged attendees to embrace their influence, regardless of title: “You don’t need a title to lead. Your voice, your story, and your courage are enough to spark change.”

Before the event concluded, Mayor Guerrero expressed gratitude to Xfinity and Comcast Business for supporting the event. “It’s important for companies like Comcast to support these events because they elevate women’s voices. It gave me a platform to talk about preventive health, an issue that is close to me.”

Following the panel, attendees enjoyed networking opportunities and the River Cats game, additional game-day components that honored women such as videos of players highlighting inspiring women in their lives and women-centered nonprofits on the concourse sharing information about the work they do. Game goers left the ballpark inspired and connected. The evening was a celebration of leadership, community, and the power of the community supporting women!
