On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 20th, Comcast employees in California joined dozens of volunteers from United Way Monterey County (UWMC), local artists, students and community members, in celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by painting a mural expressing a message of education, diversity, and inclusion. The mural was designed by the local artist group Secret Artist Community (SAC) and showcases the historic movement that Dr. King led and how it’s transformed today’s communities.

The first of its kind for UWMC, the event was sponsored by Monterey Bay Community Power (MBCP) and Comcast California. The mural is located at Marina Vista Elementary Arts Academy in Marina, California.

“Monterey Bay Community Power is honored to partner with a truly impactful community organization like United Way Monterey County, and to support a project that celebrates Martin Luther King Day as well as the intersection of education, art, diversity and inclusion,” said Alexis Garcia-Arrazola, Energy Public Engagement Associate, Monterey Bay Community Power.

Led by the volunteer spirit of our Community Impact and Black Employee Network groups, Comcast employees across the nation rolled up their sleeves to revitalize sites, help those in need and share their personal stories.
