This past weekend, Comcast participated in San Jose’s Juneteenth Festival hosted by the African American Community Services Agency (AACSA). The event took place on Saturday, June 17, from noon to 7:00 PM at The Sofa Distract.
This was the AACSA’s 42nd year producing San Jose’s Juneteenth Festival, averaging over 6,000 attendees each year. American singer and television personality, K. Michelle, headlined the event along with Billboard #1 artist Lena Byrd Miles as the gospel headliner. Other entertainment included Opal Lee, Tony Lindsay and Band, DCisChillin, Dj Quam, and Kym Whitley as the emcee. FAMU 100 Marching Band also came from Florida to perform.
There was a variety of food, artwork, retailers, community services, and local businesses that participated in the event. The festival celebrated African American heritage and served as an opportunity to educate the community on topics ranging from health to educational and financial literacy. This year was focused on celebrating the community’s resilience together after a long year of struggle. From the entertainment to the festivities, they aimed to support and display the creativity of African American artists, entertainers, and entrepreneurs.
Comcast has been a long-standing partner of the AACSA, supporting events such as this Juneteenth Festival and their Martin Luther King Luncheon. This year, Comcast was on-site with retail employees and members of our Black Employees Network (BEN) to engage with attendees. We offered an interactive booth experience that included games, giveaways, and a 360-photo booth. Comcast’s very own Lennies Gutierrez, Director of Government Affairs, serves on the board of the AACSA, sharing appreciation for this partnership and noting that there is more to come.
