Honoring Black Voices
Celebrate Black History with the African American Community Service Agency’s (AACSA) Black History Month Kick-Off on February 3rd from 2 – 10pm at 304 N. 6th Street in San Jose. Comcast is a long-time supporter of AACSA and is proud to sponsor the Black History Month Kick-Off. The event will feature a fireside chat with LaTosha Brown, Co-Founder of the Black Voters Matter Fund, networking, a Kids Zone, and Black artists, authors, and music.
Founded in 1978, the African American Community Service Agency is a resource center primarily for the African American community in the City of San Jose and Santa Clara County. AACSA’s hosts several events each month ranging from STEM Saturdays, leadership and development programs for teens and young adults, wellness programs for parents, and events for seniors. AACSA is also a Lift Zone supported by Comcast and provides digital training for seniors and students and a safe place to access Internet and technology.
Honoring the Youth of the Bay Area
Since 1891, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) has provided community-based youth development services and resources to positively impact the lives of Club members from disadvantaged circumstances between the ages of six and eighteen. With a focus on academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character, community engagement, and job readiness, BGCSF’s programming includes academic support, STEM enrichment, swimming, and music.
Comcast will host a special event for Club members and Comcast California teammates on February 22nd at the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco’s Don Fisher Clubhouse. Guests will have the chance to participate in curated festivities that include lessons on Black History, dance, crafts, sports, and conversations with Comcast employees on the importance of one’s identity, culture, and Black History Month.
Honoring the Icons Among Us
Black Joy Parade is a non-profit based in Oakland, CA that celebrates the Black experience and the community’s contribution to history and culture with its signature parade and celebration. Since its inception in 2017, Comcast has proudly supported the Black Joy Parade, participating in the procession and joining the community celebration.
In 2020, Black Joy Parade and Comcast teamed up to introduce the Icons Among Us program, an initiative to recognize Oakland’s activists and leaders dedicated to being a warrior for racial equality. The Icons Among Us award has become an extension of the organization and a popular initiative that the community actively engages in each year. Upon selection, Icons receive a $5,000 contribution to a nonprofit of their choice to recognize their commitment and contribution to creating more space for Black joy to thrive. This year’s Black Joy Parade takes place on Sunday, February 25th and begins at 12:30pm on 14th and Franklin in downtown Oakland. Join us as we celebrate the Black experience with the Bay Area community and introduce the 2024 Icons Among Us.
