For decades the San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade has stood as a testament to people coming together to celebrate new beginnings. This event spans across generations. When looking out into the crowd you see families gathered to connect to their culture over this significant holiday.
We at Comcast strive to connect people to the moments that matter most, whether it is through the internet, a phone call or their favorite content.
But there is another part of Comcast that’s very special for those of us that work here. Comcast creates a safe space for employees to connect to others who relate to their experience, heritage and culture. That comes naturally and almost magically when we come together as a big family to support the events in the community where we work and live.
For the second year now, our employees and their loved ones, led by the Asian Pacific American Employee Resource Group (APA ERG) at Comcast, marched alongside our Comcast float in the parade that’s celebrating the Year of the Rat. From atop the float our employees waved next to a family of rats that show the joy of connecting with loved ones. Comcast’s parade contingency was led by the vibrant San Francisco Police Academy Dance Troop and ended with cheerful music being played by the UC Davis Marching Band.
As a leader of the APA ERG and our company, Jenny Gendron, Director of External Affairs joined us in the festivities with her daughter. The happiness and pride burst out of Jenny’s eyes as she walks in the parade and waves to the crowds. But believe it or not, she wasn’t always proud of her heritage. The immigration experience is multidimensional and complicated. It’s one that often has you feeling lost, lonely and alone – as though you are not enough.
