Yesterday was the big day. The day that I have been waiting for all summer long… it was National Intern Day! This means the day consisted of total relaxation. I am talking about canceled work calls, lunch served on a silver platter, and a parade thrown outside the office in my honor.
Just kidding. But it is not a bad idea now, is it?
National Intern Day is a great day for both hiring managers and interns to reflect on one question: what does it mean to be an intern? When I first took this job, I asked myself the same question. In fact, I am still asking this question. I had this fear that I would be taking on a role that is pushed into a dark, secluded, lonely little corner of the company. I worried about what kind of valuable insight I would bring to the table in my short 10 weeks at Comcast. I thought I was just going to be the “intern” and nothing more. Boy, was I wrong.
My time at Comcast has been nothing short of incredible. I am a respected and valued asset to the team. My voice holds power in group discussions, regardless of how long I have been working here. I am fortunate enough to redefine the meaning of being an “intern” because, as time has revealed, being an intern holds importance; I am a full-fledged member of the team.
So, for this splendid national holiday, I am more than honored to highlight the 2023 Summer Cohort of the Comcast California team and to provide a much more personal insight into what being an intern means across a diverse range of expertise. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you today, the spectacular Comcast Interns!
Megan Mehta is a Senior at UC Berkeley, double majoring in Data Science and Society & Environment. She is currently working as a Sales Engineer Intern. Here is what she had to share about her internship at Comcast:
What is one of the most valuable lessons you have learned during your internship?
“There’s always more to the story. The deeper you dig into any problem (or solution, for that matter), the more one can learn about the different aspects of the business, thus, relevant context for developing effective solutions. Communicating and working with cross-functional teams is fundamental to the success of any project.”
What is something that took you by surprise working for Comcast?
“There’s a lot of flexibility to work with and learn from people from different departments and gain exposure for multiple roles.”
If you could intern under any celebrity or public figure in the world, who would it be and why?
“I’d love to work for Susan or Anne Wojcicki. They are influential players in the corporate world, developing well-known important products, and are on the board of several other companies/charities. Their commitment to product development, leadership, ambition, and entrepreneurship, as well as philanthropic work, is admirable.”
Tanisha Katoch is a Senior at UC Santa Cruz majoring in Technology and Information Management. She is currently working as a Construction Project Management Intern. Here is what she had to share about her internship at Comcast:
What is one of the most valuable lessons you have learned during your internship?
“Throughout my internship, I have learned what it’s like to work with cross-functional teams under Construction. Understanding what each team does and how it helps our overall business was a great skill to learn and be a part of. This also allowed me to utilize my software skills for my project.”
What is something that took you by surprise working for Comcast?
“I was surprised at how interactive the Engineering side of the business is. I work with many teams, such as design and permitting, and this has shown me how we all work together. It’s great to see everyone in the office in one area since the Engineering department is the biggest.”
If you could intern under any celebrity or public figure in the world, who would it be and why?
“I would want to intern under Selena Gomez and her company Rare Beauty because I want to understand her product lifestyle since I love them so much. Understanding her brand and her business is something I would love to be a part of.”

Wow, not only am I lucky enough to work alongside these driven women, but I also get to call them my friends. As a Public Relations Intern, I was incredibly nervous about diving into a job that I knew nothing about. I thought I would flop on something so important that I would be blacklisted from pursuing a career anywhere. Now I see how dramatic I was being, and the reality of the situation is different from what I anticipated. There is so much to learn as a Public Relations Intern. From focusing on media relations to generating buzz about a specific initiative, the fun never stops. Especially on my team, I could not have better mentors to look up to. I want to extend a huge thank you to Catthy, Jon, Adriana, and Joan. You have repeatedly demonstrated to me what it looks like to be successful in this business, and how to look good doing it.
Haha, I am (partially) joking. I am, without a doubt, grateful for this opportunity to work as a PR Intern with Comcast and will always cherish the 10 weeks that I had with the company. Long live the interns!
Cheers,
Kylie Durham
